STUDENT ZONE

Co-produced with partner universities OCAD University’s Faculty of Design, Ryerson University’s School of Fashion in the Faculty of Communication & Design (FCAD)and The Suzanne Rogers Fashion Institute (SRFI), The Student_Zone is a multidisciplinary open-space offering a multitude of free activities with a skatepark, free workshops, live podcasts, food trucks and art installations.

POP-UP SHOPS VILLAGE

With a broad variety of designers and retailers, the Pop-Up Village is the place to discover and shop from an exciting mix of Toronto and Montreal-based fashion, accessory and lifestyle brands. A destination for all your must-haves and Canadian-made collections!

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL OPEN CASTING CALL

EVERYDAY FROM 9AM TO 5PM

Calling all dancers! For the 2nd edition of Urbani_T, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting a live hip-hop audition in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil. We're inviting everyone to show us their moves and try out for Cirque du Soleil’s performer recruitment in front of a live panel of judges. MUSIC: K-OS

STARTING AT 9:30PM - PERMANENT STAGE

K-os is a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. With two certified Platinum studio albums under his belt, K-os is a household name amongst Canadians and considered a pioneer within the Canadian hip hop scene. He has released six studio albums, three compilations and 19 singles and one DVD (certified Platinum). k-os has received multiple JUNO and MuchMusic Awards for his work. He is currently based in Vancouver, BC.

FROM 12PM TO 1PM - STUDENT ZONE

Moderated by Dori Tunstall, Dean of Design at OCAD University, this podcast will focus on the affects of sneaker culture urban culture with participants in the sneaker workshop.

FROM 4PM TO 5PM - STUDENT ZONE

Dori Tunstall continues the discussion with Dion Walcott of Martk'd and Yellowbrick and participants from the skate demonstrations.

MUSIC: EDWIN RAPHAEL BAND and JUNI

FROM 4:30PM to 6PM - PERMANENT STAGE

Equipped with smooth, chilling lyrics and innate musical capabilities, 'Ocean Walk' Edwin Raphael’s first EP had been labelled as a "hidden gem with somber instrumentals and an eerie, yet beautiful listen" by pressrelease.ca quite reminiscent of the beachy and rustic sounds of Ben Howard.

Junï exists between dualities, and his art exists to reconcile this. Incorporating elements of rock, hip-hop, punk music and more into intricate melodies and engaging storytelling, junï recreates his world in his image in hopes that he can one day find balance and understanding.

CAFA ‘Stylist of the year’ Cary Tauben, will showcase a collection of on-trend  looks for their debut URBANI_T runway show, featuring one-of-a-kind threads and accessories from Value Village®. The Montreal native and avid thrift shopper is partnering with Value Village® to celebrate self-expression and unique style, while also  highlighting how reuse extends the life of clothing and supports our planet.

A VIBE

FROM 5PM to 7PM - STUDENT ZONE

A Music Creation Experience hosted by the LOUD.army. You’ll be taken on a beat making journey lead by one of LOUD's top sound producers. Come learn the basics of music production and together we’ll explore the power music has to foster community!

FASHION: YUNG ALEXANDER

6:30PM - WATER STAGE

YUNG ALEXANDER is an emerging fashion label that is designed and produced in Toronto by Alexander Kershaw.  Their experimental attitude toward forms and garments is driven by a pre-occupation with space and performativity.  Explorations of the conventions of gender and identity as they are reflected in the languages of fashion and popular culture fuel a desire to reconstruct traditional patterns.

Come have a look at some of the best creations from Montréal finest designers! Ryan Playground will be DJ’ing during this iconic runway show.

With Beurd, Bodybag by Jude, Ève Gravel, Made by Veri, Maison Elama, Naiké, Natalia Baquero and Valérie Dumaine.

The Supreme Kiki House of Christian Siriano from the Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance

6PM - WATER STAGE

The Kiki House of Siriano is here to give you a small but full of flavour taste of the Ballroom Experience! Commentating, Realness, Fashion, Runway and Vogue Fem Performance! We'll be giving an LSS to introduce who we are individually and who we are as a house. Featuring gorgeous work by Diseiye.

FASHION: SAGE PAUL

7PM - WATER STAGE

Sage Paul is an urban Denesuliné tskwe based in Toronto and a member of English River First Nation. She is an award-winning artist & designer and a recognized leader of Indigenous fashion, craft and textiles. Her work centres family, sovereignty and resistance for balance. Sage is also founding collective member and Artistic Director ofIndigenous Fashion Week Toronto.

FASHION SHOW: TO_COLLECTIVE

9PM - WATER STAGE

Toronto designers will be highlighted on this anticipated fashion show, showcasing the best Toronto has to offer. Ryan Playground will be DJ’ing during this iconic runway show.

With Alex S. Yu, Andrew Coimbra, Angela de Montigny, Anu Raina, Brit Wacher, Hilary MacMilan, Narces, Nina Spade and Zoran Dobric.

MUSIC - SOPHIE JONES DJ SET

8PM - PERMANENT STAGE

Specializing in bringing it to the ball, bringing it to you every time, and ensuring the fun and flirtiest of feels, Sophie Jones has graced stages at Osheaga, Pride Toronto and AGO Massive, to name a few. This genre non-conforming DJ prioritizes positivity to set the mood on the dance floor to ensure a safe space for all.


FASHION SHOW : ROBERT ATELIER

7:30PM - WATER STAGE

Founded in Montreal in 2014, Robert Atelier quickly established itself as one of the rising brands on the Montreal scene. The concept that inspires the imagination and the development of each model is a universal one: movement. The way each fluid thing moves and transforms into a momentum brings a new reflection on the design of a piece. The attention to movement is at the heart of Robert's innovation.

MUSIC: RYAN PLAYGROUND DJ SET

Genevieve Ryan Martel (aka RYAN Playground) was raised by two classical musicians in Montreal. At age 5 she received her first drum kit and by 11 she was creating her own compositions with her guitar and drums. By the time she was a teenager, Genevieve was experimenting with FL studio and electronic music.

With Command Sisters

Frankie Grant and Spencer Bridle are the creative duo behind WAVES. Their ability to consistently curate the sound that is WAVES has made them one of the fastest rising artists in Canada.

True songwriters and musicians at heart, Charlotte and Sarah from The Command Sisters have formulated their harmony and guitar-driven alternative pop music with musical influences that range from The 1975 to Hall and Oates.

Led by Indigenous illustrators Kaiatanoron Dumoulin and Laura St. Amant, this workshop will let you channel your creativity to create new visions of the city.

Come listen to the music that was created during the Music Creation Session of June 27th, hosted by the LOUD.army. You’ll be taken on a musical journey lead by one of LOUD's top DJ’s!

World-famous illustrator, Gary Taxali will discus with Dori Tunstall on how he envisions the city.

Ryerson University will moderate a discussion on upcycling and recycling clothes, with Value Village.

In 2042, Earth becomes uninhabitable and humans are forced to evacuate. Some refuse, most of them Indigenous, and move underground. Their descendants survive into the distant future, anchored by ancient knowledge and practice. It is in this future where we meet STOiK, a group of Indigenous artists & warriors led by Gidochige which translates in Anishinaabemowin to "He plays music."

WORKSHOP : UPCYCLING FASHION

FROM 1PM to 3PM - STUDENT ZONE

Led by Ryerson's School of Fashion and Sarah Jay in partnership with Value Village, this workshop is centered around sustainable fashion and reuse.

Originally from Toronto Ontario, Darryl Masih has lived in Quebec city for 10 years playing to audiences across the country and working for the last 10 years as a event DJ for the Red Bull Crashed Events in Quebec, Edmonton, Niagara Falls. Co-owner of DJ Company DX Agency ,Concert Producing, Artist Managing & Event planning is just a few of things which makes DJ Darryl Masih one of the most versatile djs in Canada.

Josephine Cruz aka Jayemkayem is a DJ and creative consultant currently based in Toronto. Since relocating from Calgary in 2015 she has made a name for herself around the city as a versatile and skilled selector who can play everything from the latest hip-hop hits to throwback R&B to progressive club and dance music with ease.

CASTING: 2PM to 4PM - DANCE STAGE

SHOW: 7PM - PERMANENT STAGE

URBANI_T is on the lookout for fabulous Torontonians during an open casting call right on site of the festival at Nathan Phillips Square from 2PM to 4PM. You’re invited to show us what you got, with the outfits that make you feel at your best! Some of the lucky participants will have the chance to live a unique experience by taking part of Fabulous_TO, the show created for this very occasion at 7PM on the same night. Jeanne Beker and Lolitta Dandoy will be part of the jury during the casting and will be on the stage during the show at night to explain to the public the looks of the participants. DJ Jayemkayem will spin some tunes and set the tone for a wonderful evening!
